Cisco seeks a Consulting System Engineer to provide guidance and assist account teams in building solutions to address specific customer needs. In this position, you will be working with technology experts in the Security space to help position the solution effectively against competing offerings
Related technical knowledge is essential, and sales skills are important. The ideal candidate will also have a level of comfort communicating across all functions within Cisco, as well as with clients and partners. Area or Operation responsibilities for selected major account opportunities. Provide specific solution/technology/product consulting, technical and sales support for major account opportunities. Understand business requirements for customer base and be able to translate them into technical requirements. Understand and Articulate Cisco's Architectures and Services. Facilitate better communications and understanding of customer requirements between customers, corporate and the field. Create, present and document technical solutions. Perform in-depth and high-level technical presentations for customers, partners and prospects. Drive identified major account opportunities (i.e. technical consulting, upper level management presentations, and Cisco technology solutions) while allowing local account team to maintain long-term ownership. Provide consultative support and mentor other less experienced Systems Engineers in assigned major account opportunities. Major account focus will require increased travel responsibilities. Actively participate as a specialist on assigned Virtual Team.
10+ years related experience. Cisco product experience and specific solution/ technology/ product positioning required or product experience in key competitor offerings.
In-depth knowledge of baseline SE skills and in-depth knowledge in Security Solution areas including: Cisco IronPort email and Web,Scansafe, AnyConnect VPN, ASA, CSM, NAC, IPS, and Router Security.
In-depth Security industry knowledge and relevant solutions sets, product line specifications, performance criteria and applications.
Pre-Sales experience required. Typically requires BS/BA (EE/CS) or equivalent. CCIE certification highly desirable and/or preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to work effectively, add value as a team member and assume a leadership role for the team. Demonstrated technical knowledge and consultative skills. Ability to train and disseminate information within an Area or Operation.. Technical knowledge and consultative skills, which are above reproach. Ability to understand complex technical and selling situations and the ability to solve the problem or solicit the required resources.
Understanding and conversant about company, competitors, technologies, solutions, product strengths, weaknesses, in Security
Required Experience and Skills:
• CCIE Certification Required
• Knowledge of web proxies, caching, Layer 4-7 switching
• Knowledge of network security (firewall, IPS, network admission control)
• Knowledge of SMTP Relays and anti-spam techniques
• Knowledge of Windows Active Directory services & protocols (NTLM SSP, NTLM basic, NTLM v2 etc.) a plus
• Knowledge of networking protocols: HTTP, DNS, FTP, SSH, TCP/IP, LDAP, WCCP, SMTP
• Experience with enterprise messaging, and security
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to build and present high quality products demonstrations to both technical and executive audiences.
• Strong customer facing and relationship building skills.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-up
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience deploying physical product or appliance a plus
• Must be effective in working both independently and in a team setting
• Strong writing skills with the ability to create technical documentation
• Ability to travel up to 30 percent of the time
Personal Characteristics:
• Passion to proactively seek ways to turn customers in to evangelists
• Ability to execute on current support issues while providing Sales Support / Systems Engineering support to the regional sales team
• Roll up the sleeves: comfortable working with a small and highly senior staff implementing a virtual operations model

• Technical pre-sales support for Cisco-direct and channel partners sale teams
• Proactively seek out new sales opportunities by developing new and existing technical relationships within accounts
• Present Cisco technical value proposition to customers and partners
• Proactively drive new and incremental business opportunities
• Provide Cisco product education to our Direct and Channel Partners
• Ensure success of customer evaluations
• Documentation of client feature requests and issues for Product Management and Customer Support
• Support Cisco and partner seminars and industry trade shows
• Drive the design of customer solutions using Cisco-IronPort
• Develop technical knowledge of Cisco and associated technologies
• Participate on a consistent basis in the SE discussion forums
• Assume the role of a mentor to other systems engineers when appropriate
