Technical Bid Specialist - Custom / Internet Applications

Role Purpose
The Application Platform SI team within Microsoft Enterprise and Partner Group (EPG) is looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for technology and sales to help increase the share of Internet Application bids that SIs develop and win on Microsoft's Application Platform.
EPG is comprised of over 6,000 enterprise sellers who work to ensure that Microsoft's largest customers realize the most value from IT investments. EPG's Redmond based HQ team is responsible for developing the strategies and sales enablers to support our sellers and ensure predictable growth of our Enterprise business
Within EPG, the Application Platform SI team is goaled with increasing Microsoft Application Platform revenue through SIs. The team accomplishes this by partnering with Microsoft's Platform Business Groups to develop an SI strategy for App Plat, developing joint sales initiatives with leading SIs and providing technical support to SIs when they bid Microsoft's Application Platform on key deals.
Microsoft's Application Platform is a set of integrated technologies and tools including SQL Server, .Net. BizTalk and SharePoint that enable business to extend and unlock the value in their existing applications and to rapidly develop new applications that with significant gains in time to value, productivity, and total cost of ownership.
The Technical Bid Specialist will play a key role within EPG's Application Platform SI team. He or she will apply his or her architect level understanding of Microsoft's application platform and Web Application architecture to help SIs develop winning bids on Microsoft Application Platform's.
This pre-sales architect will have proven success selling to enterprise customers including working knowledge of solution and business value selling. Demonstrated ability to engage in senior level technology and business decision maker discussions is a must. Strong leadership and the ability to professionally represent Microsoft in challenging environments are required. Demonstrated excellence at presenting complex technical topics to both executive and technical personnel is expected.
Technical Bid Specialist should have an architect level understanding of the major vendors and technologies in the Web Application market space and the ability to discuss the pros and cons of selecting one technology over another for a specific project. He/She must also track of IT industry trends, technology trends, and the impact of regulatory compliance on proposed architectures.
Accountabilities
The Technical Bid Specialist will be accountable for;
Partnering with SIs to develop winning proposals for large Internet / Web application development and outsourcing contracts that pull Microsoft's application platform technologies including SharePoint Server for Internet Sites, SQL Server 2008 R2, ASP.NET, WCF, WPF, Silverlight and FAST
o Outline how Microsoft technology brings differentiated value to Internet/ eCommerce application development
o Partner with SI bid teams to Architect a winning proposal/solution to the customer problem
o Work with SI to document the proposal/solution and respond with clear and concise bid response
Escalating and resolving technical barriers with the Redmond Platform BG.
Evangelizing senior SI Architects and technical decision makers to increase their willingness to bid on MS Platform. The SI Bid Specialist will Develop and maintain relationships with SI architects, increasing the reputation of Microsoft's Application platform as a strong platform for supporting complex Internet applications and workloads.
Identifying and documenting re-usable reference architectures that will increase SI willingness to bid a Microsoft solution
Developing high potential and reusable solutions on Microsoft platform in Web and internet application domain
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A strong candidate will possess as many of the following skills and experiences as possible
7-10 years enterprise technology pre-sales or consulting experience with a focus on developing successful bids and RFP responses on Microsoft and other web platforms
Deep architect-level experience in building large Internet/Web applications including collaborative workspaces/portals, Enterprise Content Management, Electronic Form and Enterprise Search solutions.
Architect level understanding of Web 2.0 technologies including Rich internet Applications on SQL Server 2008 R2, SharePoint Server for Internet Sites, ASP.NET, WCF, WPF and Silverlight.
SharePoint knowledge should include architectural design, Web Parts development, Custom Workflow development
Experience with Microsoft Forefront Security for SharePoint, ASP.NET and application security centered on the SharePoint document library is highly valued
Deep understanding of e-commerce systems highly valued
Knowledge of full application life cycle design tools and methodologies, e.g., RUP, Extreme Programming, Agile, Test Driven Development, and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) is essential.
Experience in working on large outsourcing deals as a pre-sale Architect role
Ability to clearly articulate pros & cons of design/architecture decisions across relevant factors
Proven success selling to enterprise customers including working knowledge of solutions and business value selling
Proven ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and drive technical evangelism (e.g., develop and deliver a short training class) to key technical decision makers within the SI
Strong written and verbal communication skills
BS/BA degree.
